Autumn table decorations: natural, stylish, and easy to make yourself
When the wind blows the colourful leaves from the trees outside, the sun is lower in the sky and the world is bathed in golden light, it's time to bring the beauty of autumn indoors. The dining table, where family and friends gather, is the perfect place to celebrate the colours and shapes of this season. Flowers take centre stage in this decoration – they are the real stars of the show. Dahlias unfold their lush petals in impressive splendour, reminiscent of little suns that brighten up the table. Hydrangeas with their soft pastel tones bring calm and abundance to the arrangement, while elegant grasses add lightness and movement. Exotic and unusual, kangaroo paws with their velvety texture and bright colour add striking accents. Together, they tell a story of abundance, warmth and natural elegance that perfectly matches the golden season.
An autumnal table decoration is much more than just decoration – it is an invitation to enjoy the season with all your senses. Small natural details and atmospheric candles further enhance the cosy atmosphere.
Required materials:
- Simple round glass vases in various heights and widths
- Autumn treasures such as chestnuts, acorns and leaves
- Autumn flowers, e.g. dahlias, grasses, hydrangeas, pin cushions and rosehip branche
- Velvet ribbon or other decorative ribbon, if desired
Instructions for autumn table decorations – we'll show you how it's done:

Step 1: Place vases inside each other
For the autumn arrangement, place a narrower glass vase inside a wider glass vase so that there is a gap between the two vases. It looks particularly beautiful when you combine vessels of different sizes, including in terms of height.
Tip: use vases of different heights and widths for all flower arrangements – this creates exciting levels for your autumn table decorations.

Step 2: Fill in the gaps
Fill the gaps between the vases placed inside each other with autumnal treasures: colourful leaves, chestnuts, acorns or small twigs are perfect for this. This creates a natural base that immediately sets the mood. Because the autumnal treasures are placed in the gaps and not in the flower water, this beautiful autumn decoration will last a particularly long time.

Step 3: Fill with water
To ensure that you can enjoy these floral beauties for as long as possible, fill all vases with approximately 1/3 water. Change the water every 1-2 days. This will keep the flowers fresh for even longer.

Step 4: Arrange autumn flowers
Now comes the colourful part: use typical autumn flowers such as dahlias, chrysanthemums, grasses and hydrangeas to add a floral touch to your autumn table decorations. Arrange the flowers loosely in the vases one after the other so that the flower heads are at different heights. This creates a particularly lively effect and really brings out the colours of autumn.

Step 5: Place the vases on the table
Now arrange the filled vases in the centre of the table. Feel free to play around with the arrangement – whether symmetrical or completely free, the important thing is that the flowers bring the table to life. Tip: an odd number of decorative objects always looks particularly harmonious.

Step 6: Add small decorative elements
Finish off the table decoration with small decorative pumpkins and apples. These can be scattered loosely between the vases rather than arranged too neatly.

Step 7: Decorate the napkins lovingly
Finally, give the guests' places an autumnal touch. Tie cloth napkins with a pretty velvet ribbon and add small flowers or a decorative apple. This will turn each place setting into a lovely detail that will delight your guests when they sit down.

Done!
An autumn table decoration like this is more than just a visual embellishment. It combines the rich colours of the season with fine natural materials to create an atmosphere that invites you to linger. The blooms of dahlias, kangaroo paws, hydrangeas and grasses not only bring colour and texture to the table, but also add special accents that constantly open up new perspectives. Together with small pumpkins, fruits or candles, they create a harmonious picture that radiates warmth and vitality. The table becomes an autumnal extravaganza that will amaze your guests.
